Every week WTSH will present a shoegaze/dream pop band on Strangeways' blog, highlighting how very awesome the band is and how you should be listening to them and buying their music and supporting them because they deserve it.

Melody Prochet, French pop aficionado and multi-instrumentalist (formerly of The Narcoleptic Dancers and My Bee’s Garden), has embraced dream pop with her Melody’s Echo Chamber project. The classically trained Parisian recruited Tame Impala front man Kevin Parker to produce her self-titled debut LP, after becoming intrigued by the Aussie psych-rockers’ scuzzy sonics. She struck up a conversation with Parker after a Tame Impala show about how he achieved the band’s signature, blown-out bass sound; later he asked My Bee’s Garden to support Tame Impala on a European leg of their tour. When Melody decided to go solo, she asked Parker to produce, and to push her out of her comfort zone a bit.

Melody’s Echo Chamber, released in 2012 (in the US by Fat Possum Records & in the UK by Weird World Records), immediately garnered widespread critical acclaim. Recorded mostly at Parker’s home studio in Perth, the debut is full of psych-tinged pop with just the right amount of thematic darkness and grime around the edges. Prochet has a way with melody and a voice that places her among the top-tier School of Dream Pop graduates, and Parker’s signature production helps this record transcend its 1960s pop influences...
