Tate captured our attention by way of an
effervescent live
set recently hosted and posted by Bigmouth productions
of Philadelphia, PA, the band’s home city. Tate began as the bedroom recording
project of songwriter Tate Kamish and has grown into a gigging and recording
quartet consisting of Tori Roccia on lead guitar, Natalia Navarra on bass, and
John DiCocco on drums, along with Kamish herself on guitar and vocals.
We contacted Kamish and to our delight were almost
immediately offered the chance to premiere new single "Lombard", a song, she
tells us, "about being bogged down by stress and monotony, the physical
and emotional effects of that, and trying to release it and regain control of
your body and headspace." Kamish’s naturally captivating voice is present in
the track from the very first note, accompanied at first only by a minimal
guitar part. The track then builds slowly and jumps up to a new level at about
the one-minute point, when fully fuzzed chords kick out beneath the song’s
winning pop melodies to complete a guitar pop sound, both bittersweet and
energetic, that fans of All Dogs, Hop Along, and Alvvays are likely to
appreciate.
Tate released first single "Honey" in 2017 and
three-track EP New to This early last year, both as digital downloads. We’re excited to
share news that the band’s debut full-length After You will be self-released on
cassette and to all major streaming platforms on July 12th, 2019.
